The silver screen adaptation of Veronica Roth’s novel, Divergent, hit theaters recently and is dominating the box office. The film tells the story of a futuristic Chicago that seems at first Utopian, with its members divided into factions based on their personality traits. When Tris Prior is marked as a “divergent,” or a person who fits into multiple factions, it thrusts her into an adventure to uncover the darker secrets behind the apparently perfect world.
Divergent, following in the footsteps of Twilight and The Hunger Games, is a teen adventure film targeted at young women. It enjoyed a $56 million opening weekend and paved the way for a successful franchise. And while critical response to the film has been mixed, no one can deny that the leading ladies totally rocked the premier. Zoe Kravitz, Shailene Woodley and Maggie Q all sported naturally beautiful skin complemented by subtle-but-powerful eye treatments.
To copy the look at home, follow these steps:
1. Start by exfoliating to lend your skin a natural glow. Start by applying a warm, damp cloth to your face to help open your pores. Then apply a mildly abrasive scrub and gently rub it in before rinsing. Good scrubs include a paste of sugar and water, baking soda and water, or avocado with honey and sugar.
2. Have lash extensions applied at Amazing Lash Studio. Extensions are the perfect way to create a natural but dramatic look for your eyes. More durable than false lashes and without the upkeep of mascara, extensions allow you to draw attention to your eyes without looking obviously overdone.
3. Follow up with Sephora’s Divergent makeup line. Inspired by the film, this makeup kit comes in colors that represent each of the movie’s factions. The variety makes it easy to create a number of looks, from natural nude shades to duskier hues and a few metallics for dramatic night looks.
Just like the lead character in the film, you too can be divergent by choosing a look that can be worn on many occasions. Dramatic eye treatments are versatile and timeless, fitting in perfectly no matter the occasion.
